Please join us – legendary back-up singer MERRY CLAYTON Q&A for 20 FEET FROM STARDOM, Saturday, July 13

1 min read

Please join us for a very special post-film discussion with Merry Clayton, star of the new documentary 20 Feet from Stardom, and one of the most famous back-up singers of all time.  In addition to her chilling vocals on the Rolling Stones legendary 1969 track Gimme Shelter (“Rape! Murder! It’s just a shot away!), Clayton’s over half century in popular music found her supporting Ray Charles (she was an original Raelette), Bobby Darin, Lynard Skynard (Sweet Home, Alabama) , Carole King (she sang on Tapestry), James Taylor, Elvis Presley, The Bee Gees and many more, before releasing three solo albums with producer Lou Adler. Containing interviews with Merry, Darlene Love, Charlotte Crossley, Fanita James, Tata Vega, Lisa Fischer, Claudia Lennear and more, as well as a little help from Mick Jagger, Bette Midler, Sting and Bruce Springsteen — the picture also boasts a roaring soundtrack of classics.

Merry Clayton will be on hand after tonight’s performance to discuss her story, her many iconic experiences in the American music industry and both the highs and lows of her illustrious career — it’s going to be a treat, so don’t miss it.
